The complex design of this Air Traffic Control Tower was envisioned by Cowi Larssen & ADPI Architects/Consultants in France.
The specified finish called for enamelling. The complexity of the design asked for a engineered cladding system that could follow the shape of building, curved and twisted. The enamel supplier, VITREX Ltd. in South Africa, did not have a bespoke system and an engineer from AFS-International B.V. assisted Vitrex in developing a panel system to suit the building design.
The proprietary system allows for adapting building tolerances in horizontal and vertical direction and to achieve the ‘TWIST” in the panels. The selected color is VE-RGL-VIP411, which is a bespoke colour, developed by matching an aluminium swatch, and then reducing the natural gloss level in enamel from its normal 90% + to below 30%.
